Stock market for beginners advice! Here are some of the things I wish I was aware of when I first started trading stocks on the stock market. As a beginner, you want to learn as much as possible before beginning to trade stocks. I spent the first 9 months of my trading career without making a profit on one single trade, and in doing this, I learned many valuable lessons. Here are the six things I wish I knew as a beginner trading stocks for the first time: 1. Get over your emotional attachment to money! This is something I learned from the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. If you make investments and let your emotions get involved with your trading, you will not be making the best trading decisions. You want to trade stocks solely based on technical data in front of you and not...

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. As a beginner, the stock market can be very intimidating. But it is not this scary or magical place people label it as. In this video about how to buy stocks for beginners, we will discuss how to open a trading account. Before you start a trading account, you should have a minimum of a 6 month cash reserve set aside as an emergency fund. There is nothing worse than being in a down market and being forced to sell for personal reasons. Trust me, I have been there. This should be enough to cover all of your living expenses over the next 6 months. How To Buy Stocks For Beginners: If you are looking to trade stocks and ETF’s you need a brokerage account. Online discount brokers are a good option for beginners. Popular choices are Fidelity, Charles Schwab, TD Ameritrade, Etrade and Scottrade. Each broker offers different perks, do your research and see which one best suits your needs. Remember, if you are planning on carrying a low cash balance make sure you won’t get clipped with a maintenance fee. How To Open A Trading Account: 1. Establish a 6 month cash reserve. 2. Research and decide on a stock broker. 3. Open a trading account. You will need to provide proof of identification when you do this. They may ask for SSN/Tax ID, driver’s license or passport information, employment status, annual income, net worth and investment objectives. 4. Transfer funds from an existing bank account. Your broker may also allow you to mail in a check or wire funds via western union. 5. Familiarize yourself with the market order types offered by your broker. 6. Familiarize yourself with the trading platform. Cash Account vs. Margin Account A cash account is what the majority of investors are looking for. With a cash account, you pay for securities in full at the time of purchase. A margin account is completely different. If you open a margin account, your stock broker has the ability to loan you money. Interest is paid on this money if it is used. If you decide to open a margin account, you need to be familiar with a margin call. This is where a broker firm can require you to deposit cash or they can sell ANY securities in your trading account to cover a loss. Familiarize yourself with the brokers policy on this. Uninvested Cash Your stock broker may offer an option to invest your cash balance in a cash management system or a cash sweep. This can allow you to earn a small interest rate or dividend on your uninvesed cash. Learn how to invest in the stock market... Avoiding what appears to be more risk. 2. A loss is twice as painful as a win is joyful. 3. Wall Street pushes the market losers. 4. Recent events carry more weight in our minds. 5. Lack of confidence in our investments. 6. Other people are doing it. 7. We are impatient and want something new. Buying high and selling low, or following the market, is a losing strategy for any stock market investor. This is the biggest mistake beginner investors in the stock market make and it is also the most common one. In the words of Warren Buffett, we should be greedy when others are fearful and fearful when others are greedy. Learn how to invest in the stock market... What is a growth stock versus a blue chip stock? In this video we will be looking at the characteristics of growth stocks and blue chip stocks and talking about which is better. We will be comparing the performance of the Vanguard Growth Index Fund to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Many investors have both blue chip and growth stocks in their portfolio. A growth stock is the stock of a company increasing in capital value. Company earnings are expected to grow at a faster rate than the market. A few examples of growth stocks are Cirrus Logic, Zillow and Facebook. A blue chip stock is the stock of a well established, stable and financially responsible company. Here is a beginners guide on how to buy stocks. This is how to buy stocks for beginners, a stock market for beginners guide! Buying your first share of a stock can be intimidating, but once you understand the basics you won't be afraid to jump in to the world of trading and investing in the stock market for beginners! In order to buy or sell a stock, you need a stock broker. In order to have access to a trading platform, you need a broker. You can go through an in person stock broker, an online discount stock broker or now a free stock broker thanks to Robinhood. I highly recommend Robinhood for stock market beginners looking for an easy way to buy stocks. The trading app Robinhood offers free stock trading with no minimum account balance. Many have asked me about my opinion of another trading app many stock market beginners use called Stash. This app charges you $1 a month for an account balance under $5,000 and 0.25% per year for an account balance over $5,000. For that reason, I am partial to Robinhood. I think this is the best app for stock market beginners to use when buying their first stocks. Once you decide on a broker you need to open a trading account. You need a trading account in order to buy and sell stocks. You typically have two options; a cash account and a margin account. A margin account allows stock market investors to purchase securities with borrowed funds. A cash account is a regular brokerage account where securities are paid in full. Stock market beginners want a cash account 99% of the time. Trading on margin is not for beginners. In order to open the account you will need proof of identity and proof of address. Once you fund the account, you are ready to buy stocks. In order to buy a stock you will need the stock symbol. For example, the symbol for Coca Cola is KO. You would type in KO on your trading platform and click buy in order to buy stock in Coca Cola. This is a stock many beginners invest in as well. When buying stocks, you have a few options for order types. You want to make sure you are using the correct order type when buying stocks. 1. Market: Executes a buy order at the current market price. 2. Limit: The maximum price you will pay for a stock. (Ex. ABC Stock is $30, Buy no higher than $25) 3. Stop Loss: Executes a buy order when the set price is reached. (Ex. ABC Stock is $25, Buy no lower than $30) 4. Stop Limit: Trigger a limit order when the set price is reached. (Ex. ABC Stock is $25, Buy no higher than $30.10 after it hits $30) There you have it! Those are the basics of how to buy stocks for beginners. I hope you found this stock market for beginners guide to be useful. The stock market can be a great way to invest your money and I encourage you to learn as much as you can about investing. Learning how to buy stocks and opening a trading account is the first step and you have now accomplished that! Learn how to invest in the stock market... What is a blue chip stock? Recently I did a video discussing a strategy involving investing 50% of your money in blue chip stocks and 50% of your money in investment grade bonds. I wanted to do a video going into more detail about blue chip stocks as well as give a few examples of some blue chip companies that pay dividends and serve as income investments. A blue chip stock is a piece of ownership of a well established, financially stable company with a track record. These companies are long standing and time tested. One way to identify them is by looking at market capitalization. Blue chip companies typically have a market capitalization exceeding $100 billion. Blue chip stocks typically pay dividends, have a history of rising dividends and have dependable earnings. Blue chip stocks are named after the blue chip in poker as the chip having the most value. There is no official list of blue chip stocks but many use the DJIA as a reference. Stock market investors like blue chip stocks for a number of reasons: 1. Dividends allow for compound interest. 2. Lower risk investment compared to smaller cap stocks. 3. Historically they have been great long term investments. 4. Most blue chip investors are long term, less short term volatility. 5. Income investors can get regular cash payments from dividend stocks. 6. Dividends allow you to be paid in two possible ways. 7. Dividends are a way to hedge against loss. While they are lower risk investments, they are not recession proof. Here are a few examples of that: 1. In 1987 the DJIA lost 23% in one day. 2. In 2008 shares of Citigroup were less than an ATM fee at the bank. 3. In 2008, Lehman Brothers went bankrupt. 4. In 2008, General Motors went bankrupt. 5. In 2001, Enron went bankrupt. 6. In 1987, Texaco went bankrupt. Dow Jones Companies (As of January 2017) IBM, Microsoft, Apple, Intel, General Electric, United Technologies, Verizon, Cisco, Coca Cola, McDonald's, Exxon, Chevron, American Express, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Visa, Walmart, Nike, Home Depot, 3M, DuPont, Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Co, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, Boeing, Walt Disney, Travelers, United Health, Caterpillar Learn how to invest in the stock market... You want to trade stocks solely based on technical data in front of you and nothing else. Getting emotional over losing money will make for a short lived trading career. The stock market is no place to be airing out your feelings. 2. Invest in something you actually care about! If you like video games, buy stock in a video game company. If you have never taken interest in the company you are looking into, don’t invest in it! You will have a much easier time riding out the storms if you invest in a company you care about and are proud to represent with your money. 3. Buy low, sell high! You want to be boarding the ship when everyone else is getting off. Often times people, including my former self, buy a stock because it is way up on a trading chart. People like good news and generally look at a stock that is down in price as a sick stock. This is the opposite of what you want to do. You want to be going against the prevailing trading trend. When everyone else is selling, you are buying! This is a mistake I see many beginners making when trading stocks for the first time. 4. Invest no less than $1000! You need to have enough skin in the game to offset commission and slippage associated with a trade. If you don't have enough to invest yet, start trading on paper for practice! 5. Don’t buy the news! You don’t want to trade stocks based on what you read or see in the news. This is known as the herd mentality. You want to have confidence in your trading ability and make decisions based on your own research. You want to buy the rumor and sell the news! 6. Only check your stocks a few times a day! A mistake many people make is obsessively checking the price of the stock during the trading day. If you do this, you will likely get shaken out of a position too early and leave profits on the table. Even worse, you could get your emotions involved and sell out of fear and panic in a downtrend! If we are keeping track, that violates three of these beginner stock trading rules. Learn how to invest in the stock market... In this video I will be breaking down the stock market for dummies. This isn’t to say you are a dummy, but I want to explain how the stock market works as simply as possible so a complete beginner can understand it. In the first part of this stock market video, we will be discussing what a share of a company is, what an IPO is, how investors influence the perceived value of a share of a stock. There are numerous sources of information out there on the stock market for dummies. Unfortunately, people generally sell the stock market as a get rich quick scheme or a way to lose a lot of money. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. As a beginner, the stock market can be very intimidating. But it is not this scary or magical place people label it as. The next topic in this stock market for beginners guide is stock analysis. Investors generally utilize fundamental or technical stock analysis. Dividends are also something to consider when getting into the stock market. I will explain what a dividend is and whether or not the share price of a stock affects the dividend price. Many beginners do not realize this, but as a stock market investor you own a piece of each company you invest in. As a part owner this gives you voting rights. In this stock market for dummies video I will explain your voting rights as a shareholder, how companies can sell different classes of shares and what a board of directors do for a company. As a beginning trader, you want to consider the volume your stock is trading at. Low volume or small cap stocks can be harder to sell because you may not necessarily have a buyer when you are ready to sell. This is a common stock market for dummies mistake! At the end of this stock market for beginners video, I will tie it all together and explain how all of the pieces of the stock market work together. I hope this stock market for dummies video helps you answer some of the questions you have about the stock market. Learn how to invest in the stock market... Portfolio diversification is an important factor to profit from the stock market, but the traditional approach is counter intuitive to maximising results. In this video, Garry demonstrates the smarter way to diversify as part of your overall asset allocation strategies. Garry Davis (AR No:317590) is an authorised representative of Primary Securities Ltd (AFSL No. 224107). Stock diversification is a common theme amongst investors, and with particular reference to the fund management industry, it generally breeds low performance. The smart way to carry out investment diversification avoids those pitfalls by not buying at the top and selling at the bottom, in other words not following the herd. Strategic asset allocation such as this gives you a much better chance to create above average returns consistently, but remember when you diversify your portfolio that you should always avoid poor quality stocks, and industries that are not in uptrend. #1 Brookfield Renewable Partners 5.66% Dividend (NYSE $BEP) This is a renewable utility company with a business model based on owning and operating renewable energy plants. Brookfield Renewable Partners has over 100 years of experience in power generation. One plus to Brookfield Renewable is that their large portfolio of assets is located across politically stable countries. About 90% of the company’s cash flow is contracted for the next 16 years, making for generally safe and predictable business results. They have a 5 year dividend growth streak. #2 AT&T 5.2% Dividend (NYSE $T) AT&T is the world’s largest telecommunication company. This is a long standing company originally founded in 1875. AT&T provides both mobile and fixed landline telephone services, data and internet services, and pay television services. The wireless industry is well established and has significant entry barriers owing to costly infrastructure. This gives AT&T a very low risk of disruption. AT&T has strong brand recognition as well. #3 Southern Company 4.7% Dividend (NYSE $SO) Southern Company is one of the largest producers of electricity in the US and has been in business for more than 100 years. Roughly 90% of Southern Company’s earnings come from regulated subsidiaries. This makes cash flows safe, regular, and reliable. Regulated utilities have predictable income and growth, and they are resistant to poor economic conditions. #4 Target 4.76% Dividend (NYSE $TGT) The first Target store opened in 1962, and the company now has approximately 1,800 locations across the country. While brick and mortar retailers are facing a number of challenges, Target likely isn’t going away anytime soon. It sells many essential merchandise items, and management is investing heavily in ecommerce in an effort to remain relevant with consumers and compete with Amazon. Target started paying dividends in 1967 and they almost have a 50 year dividend growth streak. While the company’s dividend continues to look safe, it might be wise to avoid businesses with questionable long-term prospects. Ecommerce giants like Amazon are changing the game. An investment in Target would be by someone confident that they have what it takes to remain competitive in this shifting shopping climate. #5 Pfizer Inc 3.79% Dividend (NYSE $PFE) Pfizer is one of the largest global pharmaceutical companies. Pfizer develops and produces medicines and vaccines for a wide range of medical practices. Pfizer was founded in 1849, making them a time tested company to invest in. Pfizer operates in the relatively recession-proof pharmaceuticals industry, which is immune from the unexpected changes of economic cycles. Will the stock market crash in 2017? This is one of the most common questions I get on my channel. Many are predicting that there will be a stock market crash or market correction that takes place in 2017. This bull market that we are in is getting frothy and many economists are concerned. A stock market crash is likely on the horizon, but will it occur in 2017? Many have concerns over the stability of the economy as a result of the election of Donald Trump. Could a major global event result in an economic collapse of United States markets? This bull market will likely be followed by a bear market, the question is when will the markets see a correction and how severe will this stock market correction be. In this video, I talk about my opinion on whether or not the stock market will crash in 2017 or in the near future, signs that a correction is looming and what to do when the markets crash or when a correction takes place. Will this bull market continue or are we going to see a bear market in the near future? Let me know what you guys think in the comments below. Learn how to invest in the stock market... Here are the three stocks I recommend watching in February 2017. Today’s video is about the 3 stocks I am watching in February 2017. These 3 stocks I hope to perform great in February 2017 and beyond. The stock market in 2017 may go up may go down or may do nothing at all, but I hope these 3 stocks I'm watching now do great in 2017! These three stocks are penny stocks, and when investing in penny stocks you need to understand the risk involved. So far, these 3 stocks have performed better than any other penny stocks in 2017. Without having a crystal ball, it is impossible to tell if these 3 stocks will continue to grow but based on their performance in January I think they should be on the watch list of any penny stock investor. 1. Pulmatrix Inc (PULM) This is the best performing penny stock of 2017 so far. This is a company that develops treatments for rare pulmonary diseases. This stock has almost quadrupled in January 2017 going from $0.60 a share on January 3rd to $2.22 a share on January 26th. It is worthwhile to mention that overall the stock is down compared to last years high of $3.85 on January 8th 2016. The 52 week trend for this stock is down 40.06%. 2. MYOS RENS Technology Inc (MYOS) This penny stock has also been a hot performer in 2017. This is a nutrition company based out of New Jersey that makes nutritional supplements that help those with muscular diseases. The stock had some serious excitement on January 11th when it soared from $1.30 a share to $6.82! Since then, it has come to rest around $3 a share in the end of January. Overall for the year, this penny stock has shown some growth. It traded for $1.14 a share on January 3rd and has rose to $3.28 a share as of January 26th. Historically, this stock has not traded above $3 a share since October of 2015. The 52 week trend for this stock is up 82.32%. 3. Transgenomic Inc (TBIO) The third and final penny stock to watch for February 2017 is this cancer related biotech company. This company is researching the diagnosis of cancer though blood samples of patients. A licensing agreement with Lifelabs sent this stock soaring earlier this year. On January 12th, Transgenomic Inc secured a licensing deal with the Canadian healthcare provider Lifelabs and the stock went +286% on this news. Shares of the stock traded at $0.29 a share on January 3rd 2017 and are now trading at $0.80 a share as of January 26th. The 52 week trend for this stock is up 15.94%. Personally, I do not invest in penny stocks. If you are a penny stock investor, I am sure you understand the risk involved with this type of investment. If I was considering investing in penny stocks in February 2017, these would be the 3 stocks on my watch list. Learn how to invest in the stock market...
